House Plan

Production Blog

I've drawn up a plan for the house, detailling room layouts and furnishings. I've tried to keep the house as realistic as possible, and using a layout that would fit with the victorian theme.

Here it is:

Boom boom

Ok todays work was a meeting about the house. Ronan is working on a house layout and then the rest of the week we will finalise the layout and get working on the 3d model of the house. I found a directory of victorian style furniture on the web which hopefully will provide plenty of inspiration. I also paid a visit to Home Focus at Hickeys in blanchardstown to look for green fabric for our green screen. The assistant told me Id be better off getting a dress fabric from their branch in Henry street so Ill have to go have a look there instead.

Here is the accessibility research (well most of it anyway)

Story Progression

So yesterday as Ronan said the narrative was made into a website to make it easier to follow the paths. Today after me and Leona visited the National Disability Association in Ballsbridge for information on accessible gaming and assistive technology, we returned to DCU.

We got a classroom and the others continued to work on the narrative on the blackboard while I continued with the accessibility research.

I also got an email from my Intra employer with the name of a contact (Joshue O'Connor) in the National Council for the Blind who brought me in to see some accessible web testing last year. He said Joshue might be able to put me in touch with someone from Enable Ireland who could help us with user testing.

Story Layout

As work on the story continues; it was decided today to put the scenes into HTML format, linked together by the choices.Still in an early stage; the story is 'playable' here.

Still rather rough; I've linked up about 8 sections so far...

Story

Yesterday (20/2/06)

We had a meeting about the story so far. Keiths story was the basic grounds for what we wanted but Leona and Dave in particular felt it needed to be less linear, toned down a bit in terms of horror and just generally developed. We have set a goal for friday of:

Accessibility Research completed amd research into 19th century lifestyle started (me)
Story but not necessarliy a script done (everyone else)

Day 3 part 2

Ok just finishing up in the library now. Myself, Dave and Ronan read over past thesis reports and made a list of what we think should go into ours, the document is available here in word format.

I also emailed Barry McMullin from Rince (the accessibility crowd in DCU) for some information and/or advice on our accessibility research.

A few false starts....

Day 1 - 9/2/06 Thursday
First meeting was held today with great success and chalk. We decided on a rough deadline for end of february for most of our research and our preliminary testing. We have a rough narrative done, bascially 19th century family died mysteriously in a big country manor (somewhere in ireland's countryside), for some reason (we arent sure why yet) the person playing the game is visiting the house in the modern day and encounters these ghosts. The family will consist of both parents and two children, possibily a teenager and young child. With the help of 2 buddy characters you must navigate around the house and complete the game....or something....

We then decided to rent out the tv studio to do some green screen testing on the friday.

Day 2 - 10/2/06
Myself, Dave and Leona went to the tv studio (Ronan working, Keith missed train) and did some filming against the green screen. We tried to import the footage into final cut pro but after multipe camera problems and not being able to delete anything off the temporary local folder we decided to try on monday.

Day 3 - 13/2/06
Which brings us up to the present day. I ran into Eoghan on saturday and after a discussion on production logs I decided it would be best to start a blog to keep all our production notes in one place. Everyone remembering to use it will be a whole other issue.... Me and Dave have decided to organise a work schedule to ensure everyone comes in as much as possible. No pissing about with smaller projects anymore, this shits serious!! *panics*
